Travel Accident Policy FAQs
Q. On occasion our board members travel by plane to Toronto to attend
scheduled conferences. If an accident occurs during their travel (either in
the air or on land), are they insured under our present program? If so, for
how much and what is the process?
A. LMS PROLINK Ltd offers an Association Directors Travel Policy to its groups. The
coverage provided is a limit of $25,000 Accident Benefits for each volunteer
director traveling to meetings on the organizations behalf via air, rail or car. It is
underwritten by Citadel Assurance at an annual cost of $25. per board.
Q. Are board members considered covered under the volunteer provisions of
the CGL policy? We thought that coverage would be for the existing
liability limit and the process would involve a notification by the injured
party to the Chapter, who would in turn, forward the correspondence
through you to the carrier.
A. No. The liability policy covers injury to third parties only. Volunteers are a named
insured, and the policy defends their actions. Coverage is only triggered by a
lawsuit.
Q. Would the injured party have to actually sue the Chapter?
A. Yes. Coverage can only be triggered by a lawsuit.
Q. Would the Chapter policy be the backstop or last resort policy ie would
an airline first respond to any claim by the injured party?
A. Do not count on the airline to pay unless negligence can be proven and the
maximum payout set by international agreements is approximately $250,000 per
seat.
